Board of Directors

Samuel Castic, President:  Sam is an associate in the commercial litigation and privacy and data security practices at K&L Gates, LLP.  Prior to joining K&L Gates, Sam worked as a clinical intern for the American Civil Liberties Union LGBT Project and as a McCleary Law Fellow with the Human Rights Campaign. Sam spends his free time playing rugby with the Seattle Quake, cooking, hanging out at coffeeshops, and playing with his rescue dog Madge. 

Jill Mullins, President-Elect: Jill is associate in-house counsel for Environment International.  As part of her work with the Foundation Board, Jill chairs the Legal Clinic Committee, which works on providing legal information and advice addressing the intersection of the law and LGBT lives. In her free time Jill can be found enjoying a Storm game, Seattle Repertory plays, or socializing at a coffee shop.

Jennie Laird, Vice President: Jennie is an attorney at Law Offices of Michael Bugni & Associates, PLLC.

Andrew Kamins, Treasurer:  Andrew is a litigator with Patterson Buchanan Fobes Leitch & Kalzer, Inc., P.S.  He and his partner, Thomas, make their home in Seattle.

Danielle Tovar, Secretary: Danielle is a student at Edmonds Community College and is working to get her degree as a paralegal. She was inspired to get more involved with equal human rights when she discovered her own child was transgender. She leads and participates in a support group for parents with transgender children at Seattle Children’s Hospital and volunteers for the Gender Spectrum Family Organization.

Beth Barrett Bloom:  Beth is a labor and employment attorney with Frank Freed Subit & Thomas, LLP.  A past WSBA Leadership Institute fellow, she is one of the founders of QLaw and the QLaw Foundation, through which she hopes to build a vibrant and fun community of GLBT lawyers and legal professionals.  Beth and her partner Rebecca spend their free time chasing their five year-old son Eli.

Cynthia Buhr:  Cynthia is a partner with Spencer Anderson & Buhr PLLC, where she has an active family law practice.  Prior to joining Spencer Anderson & Buhr, PLLC, Cynthia worked as an intern at SCRAP, ACLU of Washington, San Francisco AIDS Legal Referral Panel and Seattle King County Superior Court.   Cynthia is the current president of the QLaw Association and is a volunteer attorney for the QLaw Foundation Legal Clinic.

James W. Spencer: James W. Spencer is managing partner at Spencer Anderson & Buhr PLLC, which he founded in 2005. James practices in estate planning, probate and small business formation with a large LGBT clientele. When he isn’t busy running a burgeoning young firm, James can be found on hiking and biking Washington’s backcountry, traveling foreign lands, or tooling around Puget Sound in his vintage 70s Bayliner motorboat.

David J. Ward: David is an attorney at Legal Voice.

Andy Sachs: Andy Sachs is an attorney at Bennett Bigelow & Leedom where he practices healthcare litigation, representing hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers.  Andy also maintains a commercial and intellectual property litigation practice, as well as dedicating time to an active pro bono practice that focuses on cases involving dependent children and termination of parental rights.  In addition to his position on the QLaw Board, he currently sits on the Board of Directors for Equal Rights Washington and Washington State CASA.  In his free time Andy trains for distance triathlons, having completed two full Ironman races, and can usually be found skiing or backpacking in the mountains on the weekends.

Darcy Shearer: Darcy is an associate with Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP.
